Southern Ground Hornbill Habitat
Plans for Southern Ground Hornbill Habitat Underway
Meet “Morticia and Wednesday”! These sisters came to Miller Park Zoo last summer from ZooTampa. After originally sharing space in the DeBrazza monkey habitat, these lively and curious birds are ready for their own place!
Plans for the new habitat would involve converting the existing grassy space next to the DeBrazza monkey habitat. Their new home would provide enrichment and generous space for the hornbills to roam and explore as they would in their natural habitat.
The Southern Ground Hornbill inhabits grasslands in the southern region of Africa. They are known for their large size, vibrant color, entertaining personalities and cultural significance. This vulnerable species has become endangered in certain areas of Africa, due to habitat destruction, slow birth rate and illegal poaching.
With your support, the Miller Park Zoo can play a significant role in the conservation efforts of this magnificent species!
